Reruns of Dexter's Lab, Cow & Chicken, I Am Weasel, Johnny Bravo and Courage the Cowardly Dog were still aired. Cartoon Network still showed Kids WB shows during CN City (Static Shock, Batman Beyond, Xiaolin Showdown, Mucha Lucha, Jackie Chan Adventures, etc). The Powerpuff Girls aired it's last new episode almost a year after CN City premiered and reaired constantly on CN until 2008. Reruns of Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry and the Looney Tunes were still played a lot during the CN City. So not only the Powerhouse Era was the golden age but it's responsible for bringing out those golden age Cartoon Network shows whether they peaked in the Powerhouse Era, the City Era, or both eras. Yes I know what you're thinking "some of these shows had more of an impact on CN City or continued on throughout CN City", but at the end of the day they still originated in the Powerhouse Era. Life & Times of Juniper Lee (2005) = City Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (2001) = Powerhouseįoster's Home for Imaginary Friends (2004) = City Sheep In the Big City (2000) = Powerhouse There were only 2 truly memorable shows that started during CN City.ĭexter's Laboratory (1996) = CheckerboardĬourage the Cowardly Dog (1999) = Powerhouse The most memorable classic shows in CN's history come from the Powerhouse Era obviously. Just because there were a lot of Cartoon Cartoons featured in the City bumpers didn't mean the shows were played as much as they were in the Powerhouse Era when those were in its prime. Spring 2005 is when the majority were pushed to death time slots and by 2006 they were gone unless you count the Top 5 block. I would say from Fall 2004 and earlier Cartoon Cartoons were being played during the daytime on a regular basis. ![]() By 2006 there were hardly any Cartoon Cartoons found on CN's schedule unless you tuned into the Cartoon Cartoon Show/Top 5 block during weekend mornings which was hard to do sometimes. From what I remember those were pushed to weekdays or late night time slots. CN City did show reruns of Cartoon Cartoons but only in 2004 & 2005, and those weren't played as much as the Powerhouse years. Johnny Bravo and The Powerpuff Girls finished its last seasons throughout the first few months of CN City, while Ed, Edd n Eddy, Codename: KND, and Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy were the only Cartoon Cartoons that were still around the entire City Era, but that was it. That's way more variety than CN City although CN City's variety was miles ahead of CN today. The Powerhouse Era didn't just play Cartoon Cartoons all day, it also had classic cartoons from the 30's-80's especially Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, and Looney Tunes being played regularly, it had reruns of shows from Kids WB at the time, and anime on Toonami everyday. It was the perfect balance and they were living in a beautiful 3D CGI city. ![]() Also, "better" is up for debate seeing as that CN City showed reruns of shows from the Powerhouse Era and new shows from that time. How did the Powerhouse Era have more shows? More than half of the shows from the Powerhouse Era have been forgotten and during the CN City Era there was (I think) MORE shows airing on Cartoon Network. The City era's biggest weakness was the drop in quality of original programming, however, the era as a whole in terms of variety and the lineup of shows was still really good, especially from mid 2004-early 2006 during the original City look. Although I thought Camp Lazlo was pretty decent. ![]() The rest of the shows were either too underrated or mediocre. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Ben 10 were the only great shows that premiered during CN City. I was about to say, as great as the CN City was, what really saved that era was a lot of shows that started towards the end of the Powerhouse era continuing on throughout the City era and peaking throughout CN City like Codename: KND, Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Ed Edd n Eddy, Duck Dodgers, and Teen Titans. By the end of this era, the classic cartoons and Cartoon Cartoons had been greatly minimized in favor of endless reruns of the same six shows (Kids Next Door, Camp Lazlo, Foster's, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Ed Edd n Eddy, and Billy and Mandy).ĬN City = better packaging, I love the big "map" they created that links the shows together. ![]() CN City, a bit more repetitive in the shows. Powerhouse = better shows, MORE shows at that.
